Santa MugatoWith Black Friday nigh upon us, it’s time to think about shopping for that special gamer in your life. Or just for you.

    Okay, there’s the obvious stuff.

Weighted Companion Cube memorabilia from CafePress. Obscure shirts from Threadless. Actual games, consoles, peripherals, and gift cards.

But here are some other ideas:

DVDs! The King of Kong won’t hit shelves until January, but you can get 1980s arcade action with Joysticks, a Joe Don Baker sex comedy pitting an arcade against “a top local businessman and his two bumbling nephews.”

There’s also Press Start, a video game parody showing a world where “randomly-placed spinning blades are a common hazard, ninja-related crimes are rampant, and turkey legs are miracle cures that naturally occur on floors.”

Graphic Novels! The new Scott Pilgrim is out. Follow the continuing adventures of slacker hero/Sex Bob-Omb bassist Pilgrim and his battles against would-be girlfriend Ramona’s seven evil ex-boyfriends.

The first collection from The Perry Bible Fellowship: The Trial of Colonel Sweeto and Other Stories is available and is not only completely wrong, but is also pure funny.

Books! Love and Sex with Robots by David Levy. Okay, there’s a chance that people interested in this book might not have irl friends, but if they do, they’d love to receive this book by the president of the International Computer Games Association. Want to know about the latest in seedy periperhals — read this.

The Encyclopedia of Game Machines by Winnie Forster is a must have for those who enjoy saying Famicom and Master System, but even they will find systems they’ve never heard of here.

Stuff! Lost Mitten has some cute (can I say cute here?) handcrafted retro stuff. Some Pac-Man coasters from here were added to my inventory after my last b-day so I can vouch for those. Other merchandise includes buttons, rings, an NES themed business card holder and a really cool Question Mark Block.

Art! deviantART has cool art you’ll never find being sold in your college’s breezeway. You know you’ve always wanted to give out photo prints of a Big Daddy fighting Sub-Zero.

Wrapping paper! ThinkGeek has 6 variations on Geeky Wrapping Paper. Whimsy Press has Paper Invaders and three other non-traditional choices.

Cards! Check out bs angel’s shop. Her cards are handcrafted, original, and funny. Now is the time to let that special player 2 know how you feel.

I feel the need after reading this blog about Pay Per Post advertising to state that I have not received any compensation for the above links.
