Tuesday’s post generated some interesting discussion over at Big Big Question, which is one of those collective mind sites out there on the intertubes.
I remember the early days of the Internet when people heralded a new age of enlightenment. Scholars from around the world would be connected. People in Podunkia could virtually tour the finest museums and art galleries. And even the smallest voice would have a place to be heard. Bah, just give me a game where I can fling furniture at an old woman.
Big Big Question just asked, “What will boggle, surprise, or upset future historians?” I think it’s that we’ve deluded ourselves into thinking that we’re living in the Information Age, when we’re clearly living in the Age of Entertainment.
