I don’t understand how Cory Doctorow works. Cory Doctorow’s Futuristic Tales Of The Here And Now has just been released which means (in true Doctorow fashion) that you can buy it or download it for free and “copy it, share it, remix it and play with it.” I just read “Anda’s Game,” which simultaneously deals with gold farming, worker’s rights, sexism in gaming, obesity in children, and the plight of the third world.

Anda plays a WoW-esque MMORPG and she soon finds herself recruited to play custom missions for real money. The missions turn towards slaughtering noncombatants – players who sit around crafting shirts all day and Anda learns that her in-game adventures might have real world consequences. Or do they? It’s an interesting look at video game ethics and should invite discussion along the same lines as the infamous WoW funeral raid.

I’ve totally been turned onto Cory Doctorow because you recommended Little Brother…which I’m currently reading right now! I’ll have to pick up this new title as well!
