Last weekend I was in Alabama for AUSAM-Con, the 2-day anime con hosted by the Auburn University Society of Anime and Manga. I was there as a quasi-guest/staff member and had more fun than I deserve.
AUSAM-Con had everything a con should have: many viewing rooms, many panels, cosplay, taiko drums, and Seraphina.
Random highlights included:
Always Take the Metal Pipe
Evan Conaway from racketboy and I gave a history of horror games from Haunted House to Resident Evil 5, pausing to show respect for Silent Hill 2, Left 4 Dead, Fatal Frame, and Eternal Darkness. Highlights included me arguing that Pac-Man is a survival horror game and Evan arguing that Resident Evil 4 isn’t. Much love to Amanda and Mimi for not only attending the panel, but for asking interesting questions.
Rock Band 2 Tournament
Day 1 of AUSAM-Con ended with a Rock Band 2 Tournament which featured: a stage, 4 monitors so each band member had their own screen, many speakers, and audience voting through text messaging. Gabe/lias rocked the tournament and Amanda, Mimi, and I were honored to be judges.
June Five
June Five‘s JAC played near the end of Day 2, but he was around for the whole con — one of the many friendly faces in Artist’s Alley. I, like many other con-goers now own all of June Five’s CDs (with covers by Staph the Artist).
Costumes
The day started out with a Silent Hill nurse lurching toward me. Later on I saw Yoshi and Luigi, but Altaïr (Lee! her work is amazing) simply ganked me from behind.

Aramis:
I hope Staph the Artists is better than Staph the Infection.
