Is there interest in a movie character who communicates in grunts while killing animals and committing armed robbery?
Warner Bros. must think so since reports Wednesday have them rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise.
Paramount brought the video game star to the screen twice with Angelina Jolie in the lead and while the commercial success of the first movie overrode its critical reception, the second installment brought the shaky franchise to a halt. Paramount blamed Eidos’ Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness game for the movie’s box office failure ignoring the fact that they released a boring, bloated movie.
Time Warner must not lend that theory much credence since news of the reboot follows Eidos’ January 9th confession that Tomb Raider: Underworld isn’t meeting sales expectations. Now Lara Croft is in the hands of producer Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes, Terminator Salvation, and 10,000 BC), but after the recent Mummy and Indiana Jones disasters isn’t it time to leave tombs alone?
