Game Couch is having a yard sale! Please bookmark this page as new games/swag will be added from time to time.

How this works
Below are a list of games and their selling prices ($US). If you see something you want, email me. Shipping is free for the US and I am willing to ship internationally at the going rate.

After confirming your order, I’ll ask for payment through Game Couch’s PayPal link.

The Bold Print
These are all games I know to be in working order. If you have trouble running the game, you may need to consult one of the many retro gaming sites out there. In extreme cases, I may be willing to accept returns, but you shouldn’t count on it for general purchases.

My one guarantee is that if I’m selling something as “Disc only” and I find the manual later on, I will send it at no extra cost.

Blogging in a Twitter World
Overall my blogging was down, but my tweeting (@GameCouch) was up. I think this is part of a larger trend. If I’m looking for thoughtful conversation about games, I go to Twitter. It’s also my source for news and a great way to see a quick snapshot of the gaming world’s psyche. If you’re looking for community, Twitter’s the place to go. Some quick recommendations not found on my outdated People to follow on Twitter: bsangel, 8bithack, trixie360, and CorvusE.

The Biggest Story
The Rape Game, my take on the RapeLay/Amazon controversy, drew the most views, thanks largely to Leigh Alexander including it in RapeLay: The Response.

The Second Biggest Story
I understand why unique content gets a lot of traffic, but I was surprised that so many people came here looking for information about The Force Unleashed: Jedi Temple DLC. Doesn’t IGN cover stuff like this?

The Story I Wish Had Been Bigger
When a friend spotted Game Couch in a psychology newsletter, I was hoping for another flood of traffic to my interview with Grand Theft Childhood co-author Dr. Cheryl K. Olson. Instead it was just an aftershock from the 2008 piece.

Cool People
Rebecca Mayes, Audio Gamer
Video game reviews in song? I was intrigued. Since then Rebecca has exploded and now Rebecca Mayes Muses is a major part of The Escapist.

Howard Sherman, Interactive Fiction Author
What do ebook readers mean for gaming? I asked Howard Sherman, the madman behind Malinche about Interactive Fiction on the Kindle.

Beth Gallaway, Information Goddess
Beth exists in the intersection between gaming and libraries. Buy her book: Game On!

We Are They
This lead came via Jamie Sanders (VNES). They’re a cool band and I still love the pirate song. Don’t know how the Wii contest ever turned out.

Interview with Cheryl Olson
My interview with the co-author of Grand Theft Childhood was far and away the most popular story on Game Couch this year. Game Politics, Kotaku, Joystiq, and Slashdot all picked it up and now, months after the book’s release, it continues to be a big draw.

The most popular posts in 2008

Interview with Cheryl Olson
My interview with the co-author of Grand Theft Childhood was far and away the most popular story on Game Couch this year. Game Politics, Kotaku, Joystiq, and Slashdot all picked it up and now, months after the book’s release, it continues to be a big draw.

Interview with Paul Preece
The man behind Desktop Tower Defense, the game that led to the current global economic crisis.

Behind the Halo-like Anti-Smoking Ad
I saw the anti-smoking ad for about a month before one of the major sites picked it up and mocked it. After I was done kicking myself, I interviewed the people behind it.

Sitar Hero
Game Couch did it! This 2007 Friday Funny got a healthy bump when ad campaign behind The Simpsons Game made Sitar Hero a reality.

Gamefly Hacks
Sometimes I like to shock my readers with useful content. I see that I still need to write an anti-Gamefly piece for balance though.

Interview with Jamie Sanders
Somewhere in the Midwest Jamie Sanders, the boy-genius who brought us VNES, is sitting in a room full of NES cartridges and servers assembling his 8bit Army.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village
No clue about why this is the most popular review for the year.

Xbox 420
Another classic Friday Funny. You people should be ashamed.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines
And my second most popular review is a re-post of something I wrote for MobyGames back in 2006. Game Couch definitely fills a niche.

Play-Doh Star Wars
Back in 2006, when this Friday Funny premiered, it was so popular that it accounted for most of our traffic that year. 2 years later and it’s still in the top ten.

and 5 posts which I thought would be more popular

Barack-Baraka 08
I really expected to see an election year spike for this.

Cool jobs: Strategy Guide Writer
Dan Birlew lifted the curtain on how strategy guides come together.

I wanna be your NPC
This idea is gold. I’m blaming the story’s lack of success on being ahead of my time.

Interview with Uwe Boll
I contacted Uwe Boll seeking a review copy of Postal. I ended up buying my own copy (Postal review), but the infamous director was able to answer some of my questions. The part that I thought would get some play was Boll’s claim that only 20,000 people really hate him.

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (+20 Renegade Points)
I passed a Charisma check, won a speech challenge, made my saving throw and confirmed my suspicions about the sanctity of preorders.

Contest time!
Okay, I feel like having a contest, but I’m also feeling lazy so here goes. One lucky winner will win Scott Pilgrim (vols. 1-4). How do you win? Leave a comment. One commenter will be selected at random to win the set of graphic novels. If they don’t respond within 24-hours, another name will be drawn, etc.

You can comment as much as you want, but you will only be entered once into the drawing.

Winners will be contacted by e-mail, so use a real address.

Want something to comment about? Tell me your favorite game and why.

Update
The contest is closed and with four comments I did the fair thing and rolled a 4-sided die. Congrats to Bluraven79!

The guitar crapped out on us Saturday. It was the down-stroke issue and the DIY fix over at Quarter to Three helped us earn the Hall of Fame Inductee Achievement. Rock Band is awesome, but the idea of inducting a cover band into the Hall of Fame is silly — plus our drummer kept passing out.

Anyway, I was pleased with EA’s support. 4 days after setting up a case I received a replacement guitar. I haven’t checked it out yet, but you have to admire speedy shipping. But, dude, who’s having problems with their drums sticks?

Site News
We recently upgraded to WordPress 2.3. This means that tags are coming. This also means that special characters might look funky for a while. We’ll be going back through the site for some housekeeping, but if you notice an oddity, don’t worry.

Also, the kind gents at MobyGames have allowed me to bring over my reviews from their site. Coinciding with the migration will be the replacement of our numerical ratings with a five-star system. More on that later.

Speaking of reviews, I have a few in the works: Mass Effect, Indigo Prophecy, and Dementium should be up soon.

The biggest change is that you can now comment on articles. We may have retconned some other stuff, but we’ll deal with that later.
